Spooky season has arrived and with it, a desire to stream and watch horror games on Twitch. Let’s talk about some of the best horror games of all time that are sure to give you and your viewers a scare!
Silent Hill 2 (2001)
Oldie but a Goodie
A standout in the main Silent Hill series with its shocking story, this game is sure to stir up nostalgia (and fear) in those who have played it before or scare the living daylights out of new players. Who can forget seeing Pyramid Head for the first time or finding out the final twist in this tragedy? This game is a must-play for horror enthusiasts and those looking to be frightened. Be sure to play this one with some lights turned out and headphones on. The eerie Silent Hill atmosphere and sound design are sure to send shivers down you and your viewers’ spines.
Resident Evil 7 (2017)
The Resident Evil series is filled with terrifying jaunts, but 7 takes the cake for most unsettling. In this first-person horror, you’ll find yourself in the bayou looking for the past and finding a chilling present filled with terrifying new characters who just don’t seem to stay dead. Like Silent Hill 2, this game involves a man searching for his wife and the player getting an unexpected plot twist that you won’t see coming. As is the custom in Resident Evil games, you will face difficult enemies with few supplies, adding to the terror. If your heart can take it, you can enjoy this frightmare in VR.
Until Dawn (2015)
If making decisions that impact the story is more your speed, Until Dawn is the game for you. This game plays very much like a gory horror film with 8 young adults stranded on a snowy mountain, making it an entertaining watch for your viewers. You’ll decide the characters’ fates with your choices as you move through the plot that features several unexpected twists and turns.
King of Jumpscares
You really need to prepare yourself for Outlast. Try not to blow your viewers’ eardrums out with your screams of terror during this playthrough! Play as a journalist getting the scoop on a spooky asylum where you’ll get way more than you bargained for. You’ll be chased over and over without the ability to defend yourself against the homicidal inhabitants of the asylum. Hide and run as you’re barraged with jumpscares that will startle even the most stoic gamer.
Layers of Fear (2016)
If you’re looking to be scared out of your wits without blasting through enemies or worrying about game over screens, look no further than Layers of Fear. You’ll be exploring an ever-changing, creepy Victorian mansion as you uncover the unnerving history of the protagonist. What caused this madness? What will it lead to? You won’t be disappointed with the 3 possible endings in this artsy horror delight.
Want to be terrified in the company of friends? Get a group of 4 together and try out Phasmophobia! Ghost hunting shows made us all want to get out there and find proof of the supernatural. Now you get to do that in an early access game with hauntingly good sound design. You’ll hear threatening ghost whispers in your ear that are sure to make you jump. Cooperate with your friends to find out what sinister spirits haunt the locations currently available in Phasmophobia, but be careful or you may not survive!
Little Hope (2020)
Little Hope releases October 30th, 2020 making it a prime horror game to stream around Halloween this year. Foggy small town, witchcraft, and ghoulish creatures roaming through the night—sign me up! Much like Until Dawn, as it was made by the same folks, Little Hope will be an interactive drama, so grab your popcorn, but try not to spill it when the game gives you a fright!
